Beecham & Smithy Court, Pemberton: February 2010

Economic Profile

Wigan Borough is one of the North West's premier business locations.  Even during the recent tough economic situation, Wigan has performed well, continuing to grow a strong and diverse economy, with at least one new business starting everyday.  In fact one quarter of all new businesses created in Greater Manchester in 2010 were in Wigan Borough.

The service sector is strongly represented, accounting for 76.8% of the borough's industry profile.

Industrial and commercial developments such as Martland Park, Stone Cross Park, Leigh Commerce Park and South Lancs Industrial Estate are attracting a more diverse range of companies to the benefit of the local economy and the borough. Longer term developments such as Westwood Park, Wigan Pier Quarter and Pemberton Business Park offer the opportunity to attract high technology and high growth companies.
