Wigan Christmas Lights Switch On: November 2010
Town Centre Management
With shopping a national past time, it is safe to say that consumer is king. People enjoy spending their hard earned cash, particularly in pleasant surroundings. In recognition of this and as part of a strategy to attract significant retail investment into the Borough, a Town Centre Management initiative has been implemented covering town centres across the Borough.
The initiative benefits retail businesses by providing a communication channel with the local authority where they can raise any issues or concerns. Businesses also benefit from increased footfall and visitor numbers generated through combined marketing spend.
The Town Centre Management initiative has built on private and public investment throughout the Borough and has created a strong relationship with the existing retail businesses. Seasonal events and activities organised and promoted by the initiative in conjunction with key partners, all help to create an enjoyable shopping experience and have a positive impact on the retail businesses.
The scheme, operated by a Town Centre Manager and two Town Centre Co-ordinators, acts as the interface between the public and private sector and aims to encourage retail businesses to participate in and contribute, financially or otherwise, to the marketing and development of the town centre. It also identifies and promotes key investment opportunities.
