- Wigan Borough in Bloom - How Can I Get Involved?

Wigan Borough in Bloom aims to enhance the local environment by creating year round floral displays in town centres and neighbourhoods.  By working in partnerhship with local councillors, businesses and community groups, we aim to achieve a cleaner, safer, greener place to live, work and visit.

Neighbourhood in Bloom is an important part of the initiative.  It brings together residents to help them 'green up' their local area.

Why get involved?
Working with other people in your community to improve your neighbourhood will have many benefits.  These include:

  • Cleaner and greener surroundings for a healthier community
  • Safer environments for the enjoyment of local people of all ages
  • Increased pride in the place you live
  • An opportunity to play an active part in your neighbourhood

How can I get involved?
There are a lot of ways in which you can do something to enhance the look and feel of your local environment.  Ideas include:

  • Adopt a gated alleyway at the rear of your property so that it becomes a community space
  • Maybe there is a communal garden that needs some tender loving care
  • Work with others on a nearby allotment to grow your own food
  • Join a local church group and help restore or maintain church grounds
  • Get together with local neighbours to create a street of hanging baskets
  • Improve local grot spots and floral displays

There maybe funding available to help you with your project.  As a starting point, please click here to be taken to the Grantnet website.  This is an online, searchable database of funding sources, which may be available to you or your organisation to help you with your contribution to the Wigan Borough in Bloom campaign.
